About deseo
the journey behind deseo
I’ve been tattooing for over a decade, but my passion for art began long before that. Growing up, I was captivated by Japanese animation and manga from the late 70s and early 80s, which sparked my creativity and inspired my artistic journey. Before becoming a tattoo artist, I worked in graphic design, web development, and large-format printing in Kansas City, Missouri.
In 2012, I moved to Austin, Texas, with the dream of pursuing video game concept art, but my path shifted when I discovered tattooing. After completing my apprenticeship, I realized this was where I belonged. Tattooing became more than a career; it’s a craft I love and a medium where I can blend storytelling with art.
Every tattoo I create begins with a conversation. I collaborate closely with my clients to understand their vision, aesthetic preferences, and what their tattoo represents. By combining their ideas with my artistic perspective, I create designs that are deeply personal and completely original.
My work is about more than just ink; it’s about crafting meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces that tell a story. I never trace or replicate someone else’s art instead, I draw every design from scratch, ensuring each tattoo is as unique as the person wearing it.
My Approach
Artistic style
My style is influenced by my early love for Japanese animation and traditional Japanese tattooing, as well as my appreciation for a wide range of art forms. I often mix and match elements from different styles to create cohesive, visually striking designs. Whether it’s illustrative, black and gray, or colorful, my goal is to create tattoos that flow seamlessly and represent something important to the client.
Where I work
I tattoo at Dovetail Tattoo in downtown Austin, Texas. The studio has a relaxed, welcoming vibe where clients can feel at ease. Many of my clients are repeat visitors, and my days often feel like hanging out with old friends while creating meaningful art.
Our studio environment is professional yet chill, and we focus on providing a clean, organized, and positive space where every client feels comfortable.
Beyond tattoos
In addition to tattooing, I create digital illustrations as a way to challenge myself and push the boundaries of my creativity. While some of these pieces inspire tattoos, most are personal projects that reflect my passion for art. Occasionally, I offer prints of my illustrations for those who want to own a piece of my creative journey.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and my work. Whether you’re here for a custom tattoo or simply exploring my art, I’m excited to collaborate and create something meaningful with you.
